EXPECTJWELVE TO START . IN WOOD MEMORIAL 0 ; Tintagel Among Probable Starters Saturday After Mile Speed Display Bold Venture, Tatterdemalion, Bright Plumage, Teuf el, Granville, Seabiscuit, Ned Reigh, Hollyrood, Delphinium and Clocks Possible Competitors in Derby Trial NEW YORK, N. T., April 21. Delphinium, Brookmeade Stables hope for the Kentucky Derby, is back at Belmont Park after his unsuccessful invasion of Maryland last Saturday in an effort to win the Chesapeake Stakes, which fell to William Duponts Messenger filly Gold Seeker. The son of Blue Larkspur and Multiflora showed a turn of speed in the Havre de Grace prize, but evidently needed the race, for he tired at the end. The next engagement for Delphinium is the Wood Memorial, to be run at Jamaica Saturday, and present intentions art to send him to the post as another important step toward the Kentucky Derby. His promised presence in the Wood lends interest to that 0,000 added prize, and at this time it shapes up as more of an important test for the Derby than ever before. Another of the Chesapeake starters that will probably be in the Wood Memorial field is Teufel, son of Diavolo and Virginia L., which races for the Wheatley Stable. He has an undoubted chance in this bestof the early New York three-year-old prizes and, like Delphinium, will have been fitted by the race at Havre de Grace. William Woodwards Granville and Willis Sharpe Kilmers Ned Reigh had public trials for the Wood in the Bridgehampton Purse at Jamaica today over the same distance as the Wood, and, like the others, they are heading for the Derby. One other that may be raced in the Wood, though earlier there was no such intention, is Marshall Fields -Tintagel. It was pretty generally agreed that the son of Sir Galla-had III. was simply a first-class sprinter, but Odom stepped him along for a mile in .1:43 at Belmont Park yesterday morning and he accomplished the work so handily that it suggested his being sent to the post Saturday. Morton L. Schwartz Bold Venture, when worked a mile and a quarter in 2:08 at Belmont Park, Monday, showed a readiness for the Wood, and this coming on the heels of his impressive winning effort under silks, gives him importance not only for the New York prize, but for the Derby a week from Saturday. Then there is C. V. Whitneys Tatterdemalion that may be listed as a Wood starter. This good son of St. Germans and Elf is not a Derby eligible, but he is in the Preakness and he has been coming along magnificently. A handy mile and a furlong in 1:59 in company with Red Rain at Belmont Park yesterday was enough to show his readiness. In a recent six furlongs dash this fellow was second to Mower and was gaining on Continued on twenty-second page. It is possible that as many as twelve will be seen at the post in the Wood, and it gives promise of being a thoroughly representative field. The probables with their weights are: Bold Venture, 117; Tatterdemalion, 117; Bright Plumage, 117; Granville, 117; Seabis-cuit, 117; Teufel, 112; Ned Reigh, 117; Tin tagel, 117; Hollyrood, 117; Delphinium, 117; Clocks, 117.
