ELIGIBLES FOR KINGS PLATE Glanford Heads List of Oldest Stake in North America. Fifty-Two Nominations Received This Year, an Increase of Eleven Over . Number Last Year. TORONTO, Ont., April 21. Local racing fans turn their attention to turf affairs at home with the announcement of the Kings Plate entries. To race minded folk in these parts the publication of Kings Plate entries is the first harbinger of spring. The list is an imposing one this year, with fifty-two entries, representing twenty-eight interests, being an increase of eleven of the totalrfor last year. The Parkwood Stable of R. S. McLaughlin is the leading nominator with six, while E. F. Seagram is well up on the list, as usual, with five entries, and H. C. Hatch and Erindale Stable have named four each. However, it is not from any of the above that the future for the Kings Plate is likely to come this year. That honor will probably fall to George M. Hendrie by reason of the presence of Glanford among his three entries. Glanford was by far the most impressive juvenile seen in action in the Canadian-bred ranks last season, despite the fact that a foot ailment limited his starts to three and brought about his lone defeat in the last of these efforts in the Coronation Stakes at Woodbine Park on Saturday, September 21. , Previous to that effort, he had beaten all " the top-notchers of the division with ease in his Clarendon Plate triumph, that victory alone, being of such nature to proclaim him the best of the lot for it was a truly-run race in every detail. There were quite a few juveniles that impressed as being better than average last season and, with he possibility of any of these showing becoming improvement over two-year-old form, the training season may easily develop one or more rivals for Glan-fords post of favoritism long before the actual running of the race. REPORTS COLT DOING WELL. Harry McDonald has reported, from the farm near Hamilton, that Glanford has grown a new hoof on the foot that bothered him last year and is going along very satisfactorily in his early training, so that he must rate the outstanding candidate at this time. 3 H. C. Hatchs Sweepouch and Penabud, Parkwood Stables Silviris and Silent Sea, E. F. Seagrams Samoan, W. Thuners Speygold, in fact all those that particularly distinguished themselves in juvenile competition last year, with the exception of Erindale Stables Spring Moon and Riverdale Stables No Retreat, are found among the entries. Spring Moon became ineligible when she won a race "other than for two-year-olds," an all-ages affair at Dufferin Park, last season, and No Retreat has been campaigning at New Orleans during the past winter, which eliminates her from eligibility. Three-year-olds outnumber those of all other ages, as usual, but there isnt quite the preponderance of these as in other years, the list including five four-year-olds, three five-year-olds and one nine-year-old. The entry of the latter veteran, named Hurry Fox, a chestnut horse by Red Fox II. Loganberry, the property of R. G. Vanderburgh, must constitute some sort of record. At any rate it is not within memory when a horse of such advanced age was named for the Kings Plate. W. Hammall is listed as breeder of Hurry Fox. The horse has never started.
