PAYS NEW DEAL SHOW TICKETS Narragansett Park Loses 0,000 Through Mistake of Judge in Placing Identify Third. PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 2.— In the fifth race this afternoon, the Narragansett Handicap, won by Allen Z., with Clang second, the electric eye picture showed that a mistake had been made in the placing of the third and fourth horses. One of tne judges, disobeying instructions to await for electric eye pictures, punched the keys which posted the numbers on the board and placed Identify third and New Deal fourth. The electric eye pictures have shown that the judge was in error. This judge has been relieved of his duties. Having installed the electric eye at great expense, Mr. OHara has determined to stand one hundred per cent in its support, whatever the cause or whatever person benefits or suffers. While the numbers that were posted on the board by the judge cannot now be altered, Mr. OHara, of his own volition, has decided to pay off all bettors who had show tickets on New Deal. The price on New Deal to show would have been .10, and this price was paid upon presentation of tickets at the show windows after the last race. This decision will cost the Narragansett Racing Association approximately 0,000, but that is an expression of their determination that the electric eye shall judge all close finishes at Narragansett Park, and that the public will be protected one hundred per cent, at all times.
