HAPPY KNOT IN, FAST TBIE Completes Six Furlongs in. 1:10 to Carry Off Gaspee Claiming Stakes. Bubblesome and Vote Boy Land Second and Third, Respectively Favorite, Deduce, Big Disappointment. PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 22 Happy Knot was a fast running horse in the Gaspee Claiming Stakes that featured the next to final days card at Narragansett today and she ran within a fifth of the track record when she completed the three-quarters journey in 1:10 to beat Bubblesome by two lengths. The mare from Mrs. Doris Melan-sons stable led for every stride of the way. Bubblesome, under the silks of Joseph Bar-tell, beat T. F. Swords Vote Boy by a half : length for the place award. Happy Helen was fourth and the favorite, Deduce, last in the small field. The defeat of Mrs. H. L. : Ughettas gelding was a stunner for the form players, who had bet on it heavily. The winner, ridden by Nertney, broke very fast and was setting the pace by two and : a half lengths as they completed the first quarter. As they rounded for home it was obvious she would riot be caught, but Nertney never let up on her, riding her out smartly. Vote Boy followed the pace closest for most of the journey but could not withstand the stretch charge of Bubblesome, which had been rated back of the leaders in third place by Laidley until they hit the middle of the stretch. Vote Boy was driving hard at the end and had four lengths to spare over Happy Helen for third. Deduce simply did not raise a gallop in the event. Clear but cool weather prevailed for the sport and a high wind was blowing across the track. Despite the unseasonably cool temperature a large crowd was on hand to witness the sport, which was contested over a fast track. Capt. Yarbrough, ridden by H. Le Blanc, carried Mose Lowensteins purple and white silks home in the four and a half furlongs event that opened the sport. At the end the Nassak juvenile was two and a half lengths ahead of J. Mv Zimmers Yetive. Jeanne Fetzko was beaten a neck for the runner-up award and Robins Cove was fourth in the field of a dozen. Capt. Yarbrough led from Flag-fall to finish and was not seriously threatened at any stage of the journey. J. W. Y. Martin won the three-quarters second race with his Canter gelding, Tugboat. The extreme outsider, Lilleen, was second, three-quarters of a length behind the winner and a half length in front of the red-hot choice, Araho Stables Society Column. Society Column suffered interference in the back stretch or probably would have won. The winner paid 7.50 and the second horse paid off 39.20 to place. The winner was ridden by Bobby Jones. The third dead heat of the meeting came in the six-furlong event that was third on the card. C. W. Phelans Be Just and Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Charmed Eyes got home so close that the photograph showed them nose and nose at the line. Mrs. C. Tumins Tramway was another length back at the finish and Bank Holiday was fourth. This was the I first time that a dead heat has come in a race that decided the "Daily Double." Folks who coupled Capt. Yarbrough with Be Just and Charmed Eyes were paid off, the "Double" pool being split the same as the straight pool. Miss L. C. Whites Merovech romped to victory in. the fourth, getting home two lengths in front of Mrs. S. A. Pariseaus Manya. The latter was a neck in front of Sir Kai at the end, with Curling fourth. Merovech broke in the front flight in the three-quarters event and took the lead at the half, never to relinquish it. Manya broke fastest of the band, but Kopel took her slightly back of the pace when Merovech made his move. She. was driving hard at the end, but could not catch the winner, although Jackson was forced to ride the winner out vigorously. Purchased privately,. St. Moritz, racing for his new owner", J. W. Cohen, won at the first asking, literally outclassing the field that opposed him in the one mile and a sixteenth sixth event. The finish found the St. James gelding with four lengths to spare over the nonchalantly-ridden Idle Along, the choice. It was only in the last strides that the favorite was along to gain the place award over the tiring Joda.
