I ? LATONIA TURF NOTES f : : $ William E. Schmidt of Chicago, owner of the Superior Stable horses, arrived and. will remain to see his Holl Image, winner of the Arkansas Derby, run in the Latonia Derby. The remainder of the Superior Stable horses are at Chicago. George Ledermeier registered the two horses he has had here for some time and which will carry the colors of Mrs. Ledermeier. They are the six-year-old Play Lady and the four-year-old Marmosa. Headed by the Latonia Derby candidate Silas, Mrs. Bessie Franzheim will have one of the most .useful stables on the grounds. The other older horses in the establishment are Compensatory, Perdition and Old Deal. The others are all two-year-olds Cane Ridge, Step Quick, Gay Troubadour, Gros-jean, Gaelic, Big Bud, Lady Dedlock and Sonsy Boy. A. C. Dettwiler is training the horses. Carl Meyer checked in from Aurora with ten horses that he will campaign here for Dr. A. A. Young of Chicago. In the same consignment came five horses which race for the Devereaux Brothers and in charge of Jim Gass. Six additional head, owned by the Devereaux Brothers are due here from Aurora over the week-end. The three-year-olds Morts Pal and Hill Jimmy, and the four-year-old Flying Jay, will race for Rudy Varwig, Cincinnati turfman, during the Latonia meeting. Trainer Stanley.. Sharp reports that the four-year-old Lastos, Which underwent the firing process last winter, is-ready to participate in more strenuous work and probably will return to competition soon. Sharp also has the five-year-old Eddy Lee. J. C. Gillem, who has several horses here in charge of his son R. C. Gillem, arrived Friday morning from his home in Lexington and will remain for an indefinite period. The veteran Earl Pool is indulging in some serious morning work in preparation for another riding campaign at Latonia. He expects to do as low as 108 pounds. Former jockey Otis Clelland, who developed jockey Martin L. Fallon, who ranked well up on the list of American riders last year, has another promising apprentice in William L Johnson, a product of Owens-boro, Ky. Johnson is sixteen years old and tips the beam at seventy-eight pounds. He probably will don colors for the first time at this meeting. Johnsons contract is held by Mrs. R. J. Murphy for whom Clelland trains a useful stable of horses. Justa Glider, a three-year-old filly in the stable of H. H. Temple, Jr., succumbed to an attack of pneumonia, developed en route here from Maryland. She was not insured. Temple has four others at Latonia Peter Pumpkin, Frosty Rain, Geezum" and Cloudy Sky. Pat Murnan, Columbus, Ohio, sportsman, has eighteen horses here in charge of A. L. Taylor. Among them are Social Boy, Gold Royal, Royal Lad, Grace M., Blue Royal, Shadow Lillian, Lady Graceland, Coax Me, Thurlew, and the two-year-olds Thursland, Thurway and Ohio king, -
