r . jj CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES J : During the absence of James Chesney, .who went to his home in Belleville, 111., from Hot Springs, jockey Reggie Cooper is looking after Chesneys horses at Churchill Downs. Owned by Mrs. Chesney, the horses are Professor Paul, Cristate, Blazing Torch and the Derby eligible Carl S. Former jockey Claude Hunt is "prepping" Peter Pumpkin and Aces Wild for a local campaign. They are at Douglas Park. I Sylacauga, Mike Whalen, Wont Lie and JDonnie W., all owned by Esther Belle Mick, are among the horses M. Rinke is training at Douglas Park. They campaigned at Oak-;lawn Park last month. t C. Kranz with Brilliant Stone and Ducky D. has taken up quarters at the Beechmont course. The three-year-old Valvestor, formerly trained by the late Albert Thomas, veteran colored turfman, who passed away here a iweek ago, has been turned over to H. J. Mattingly. Valvestor is owned by Dr. William Kinney, of Paris, Ky. f For John Clancy, a local patron. Ernst Bauhofer is training the two-year-olds Babe Taylor and Agnes Knight The latter is a daughter of Blondin, while the former, also a filly, was sired by Lee O. Cotner. Joe Turley, well known turfman of Lexington, and Morehead is back at Churchill Downs with two two-year-olds, a like number of three-year-olds and the older Ben Minturn. The juveniles are Modernize, a bay filly by Peter Hastings and Wawbeek, :and Sweep Fire, a bay daughter of Sweep iUI and Campsie. The former youngster is a half-sister to Cayuga, Camp Douglas and other winners. I Paul T. and Calowee are to remain at Dr. C N. Finchs Indiana farm for a short rest before resuming training. They were among the horses Finch had at Oaklawn Park. ! Due to track conditions, little training was attempted at Douglas Park on Monday and iTuesday. Lou Morris, former jockey who raced a division of the L. J. Marks stable at New Orleans last winter, may campaign a draft of horses from the same establishment in the central west the coming season, v The first issue of the Church Downs condition book, including nominations to tho 0,000 added Kentucky Derby and other stakes to be renewed during the meeting, along with other pertinent information and data, will be ready for distribution Thursday. A meeting of the State Racing Commissions license committee, composed of Charles F. Price, C. Bruce Head, S. H. Mc-Meekin, T. C. Bradley and S. C. Nuchols, will be held in the commission offices at Lexington early next week. The committees report, with recommendations, will be the principal business" taken up by the commission at its annual pre-season meeting in Lexington a week from Friday. W. H. Furst is here for a short visit. His wife, the daughter of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars, is the owner of the Kentucky Derby candidate, Gerald, and a number of other horses being trained by Bert B. Williams. Trainer A. Miller is sending three of the twelve I. J. Collins horses hp shipped into Churchill Downs from Miami, to the Douglas Park track where another unit of the stable has been quartered for several weeks. Bernard F., a probable starter in the Kentucky Derby, Paradisical and Bushmaster are among those Miller, plans to keep at the Downs. Having lost Bon Centime on the closing day of the Oaklawn Park meeting, Nick Burger will start the Kentucky season with only one horse, the veteran Frank Ormont. Whatway, Dandy Jay and Star Bud comprise the present stable of R. T. Runnells, a spring regular here. Runnels arrived with the trio from Florida several days ago. F. H. Carpenters stable at Churchill Downs consists of Capitalist, Cross Ruff, Overplay and Rigorous. Trained by William Stock, the Carpenter horses were recent arrivals from Hot Springs.
