FAIRMOUNT PARK MEETING Track Ready to Install Improvements and Operate From May 29 to July 4 if License Fee Is Cut. ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 7. Fairmount Park at Collinsville, 111., will open May 29 and the meeting will continue until July 4 if the Illinois legislature cuts the daily tax from ,000 to 00, according to an announcement made by Robert S. Eddy, Jr., who came from New Orleans. The dates will be subject to approval by the Illinois Racing Commission. State Representative A. B. Lager, Carlyle, 111., introduced a bill to cut the tax from ,000 down to 00; the bill passed the house and is now in the senate. It may be acted upon in the senate Wednesday. Eddy stated that he would proceed to Springfield, 111., to furnish the legislature with information, If any is desired. No racing was conducted at Fairmount last year. The fall meeting of 1935 was the last racing staged at the Collinsville mile track. At that time the main highway leading to the track was torn up and track visitors had to detour to get there. The highway is now in good shape and the stage is all set for a big meeting, if the state fathers cut the daily tax. Eddy and his associates also will conduct the Aurora meeting, where the Chicago racing season will be ushered in on May 1.
