McLENNM CHICAGO VISITOR Washington Park Racing Secretary Checks Over Stake Nominations Satisfied Coming Meeting Will Be Best in History of Homewood Track Derby Closes May 17 Charles J McLennan racing secretary for the Washington Park meeting that opens May 24 to run for thirty days arrived in Chicago on a hurried visit from the East McLennan returns to Pimlico tomorrow but in the meantime is busy attending to various tasks connected with the south side track and checking the stake nominations for the seven Washington Park added money events eventsDERBY DERBY INCREASES INTEREST INTERESTMcLennan McLennan is satisfied that the approaching meeting will be by far the finest ever staged at Washington Park and will have just about every one of the best stables in the land represented here Not only has the re ¬ turn of the historic American Derby to the program stirred up new interest in the track but the first runnings of the 50000 Washing ¬ ton Park Futurity and the 30000 Princess Pat have appealed to every horseman horsemanMcLennan McLennan took a look over the early nominations and requests for stable room and then checked up on the final payments for the twoyearold features These last payments on the 220 eligibles for the Fu ¬ turity and the 147 for the Princess Pat are due May 15 with nominations closing May 17 for the Derby the Great Western the Blue and Gray the Prairie State and the Chicago Handicap HandicapPREDICTS PREDICTS BIG SEASON SEASONI I really believe that there is new interest everywhere this year in racing said Mc ¬ Lennan and that Chicago is in for a fine season The successful opening at Aurora would indicate that just as the crowds in Maryland and New York are bigger than ever this spring When I return east I ex ¬ pect to visit New York tracks as well as Pimlico in the interest of Washington Park stakes and Im sure that all the best horses of the various divisions will appear during our meeting here hereWhile While McLennan is in the East Sydney Brown will be doing some missionary work in Kentucky soliciting stable reservatons and stake nominations from stables quartered at Churchill Downs for the Derby
