TwentyEight Days of Sport to Be Staged in Winnipeg Numer ¬ ous Small Meetings SAN FRANCISCO Calif May 5 Charles P Roe assistant manager of the organiza ¬ tion which controls racing at Polo and Whittier Parks Winnipeg Can is a visitor at Bay Meadows in the interest of the com ¬ ing meetings at those plants Twentyeight days of racing will be staged in Winnipeg this year getting under way at Polo Park May 29 Racing will continue at Polo Park until June 14 and then the scene will shift to Whittier Park where the meeting will be from June 18 to July 3 3Following Following the Winnipeg meetings a num ¬ ber of lesser sessions will be held throughout the Canadian Northwest giving owners a solid sweep of sixtysix or more days of racing on the other side of the border Meet ¬ ings to follow the Winnipeg sessions are Calgary Alta July 5 to July 10 Edmonton Sask July 12 to July 17 Saskatoon Sask July 19 to July 24 Regina Sask July 26 to July 31 Edmonton Alta August 11 to Au ¬ gust 18 Calgary Alta August 21 to Au ¬ gust 28 28In In all over 170000 in purse money will be distributed during the sessions in western Canada During the Winnipeg racing there will be a handicap each day carrying a value of 800 or more while two other races every afternoon will be worth 500 three worth 400 and one worth 300 At least two races over hurdles will be offered each week of the Winnipeg season seasonFOUR FOUR STAKE EVENTS EVENTSFour Four stakes the Speers Handicap 2000 added threeyearolds and over one and onesixteenth miles Whittier Park Handi ¬ cap 1500 added for Canadianbreds one and onesixteenth miles Polo Park Handi ¬ cap 1500 added threeyearolds and over one mile and seventy yards and the Western Canada Handicap 1000 added for Cana ¬ dianbreds one mile and seventy yards will be held at Winnipeg WinnipegPolo Polo Park is a threequarter of a mile track with a mile and seventy yards chute from which the mile races are also started while Whittier Park is a fiveeighths mile track with six and a half furlongs mile and an eighth and four and a half furlongs chutes Both tracks are less than ten min ¬ utes ride from downtown Winnipeg WinnipegOfficials Officials with national reputation will again conduct the sport on Winnipeg tracks this season R James Speers father of rac ¬ ing in the Canadian Northwest is general manager of the tracks George W Schilling is presiding steward Robert S Shelley is racing secretary and James Donovan is starter starterAssistant Assistant manager Roe has posted a notice stating that he will be at the Bay Meadows track secretarys office each morning to an ¬ swer all questions pertaining to the meetings in western Canada and to make arrange ¬ ments for the shipment of horses of any owners wishing to make the trip
