thoroughbred industry industryIn In recent months Crescent Oaks Ranch near Denton but controlled by Dallas capitalists acquired the sire Hadagal from Warren Wrights Calumet Farm Lexing ¬ ton Ky and the strapping son of Sir Gal lahad m Erne now is installed there He will be bred this year to most of the mares originally installed there and included are some of the best bred matrons in the state from Pons namely Smooth Blade a gray colt by Ladkin Tuckahoe arid Bit Player a sprightly filly by Display Talented by Chicle ChicleMrs Mrs Bonner Retires Top Fillies FilliesAnother Another Texan who should be heard from in breeding circles just as she is in racing today is Mrs H P Bonner well known Fort Worth socialite who recently retired four of her top racing fillies to the stud This step Harts fine place at Hurst Colonel Hart is asso ¬ ciated with Mrs Bonners husband him ¬ self a prime factor in the development of Mrs Bonners racing and breeding inter ¬ ests in the management of the Fort Worth Sand and Gravel Company one of Texas pioneer establishments establishmentsMrs Mrs Bonner will add to her initial group for breeding as she has more than 50 horses in training Some of the fillies will find their way to the nursery at the end of their racing days daysOther Other Women in Industry K KTwo Two others of the feminine sex who have embarked upon careers as breeders are Mrs J O Hart wife of the owner of Pondariel and her daughter Mrs Othel Hart Burmester who own the stakeswin ¬ ning mare Tweed and plan to add others within the next few months Tweed was a stakewinning mare in France and Eng ¬ land and was imported to the United States by the late Willis Sharpe Kilmer At his Newmarket Va breeding establish ment Tweed remained many years being bred to the great Sun Briar after secur ¬ ing a couple of good foals from the matron disposed of her to Mrs Hart and Mrs Bur ¬ mester Tweed has been bred to Nedayr and if the two enthusiastic breeders get a good foal they plan to send the aged French matron to Pondariel in 1944 Another feminine breeder is Mrs R R Greenlee of Arlington who rejoices in the ownership of Fickle Chance the good daughter of Chance Play Miss Chicle who already has had one good foal and was bred to Out Bound for 1944 foaling Men ¬ tion of put Bound recalls that Mrs A R Smith in whose name that sires greatest son Through Bound races is a well known breeder breederMrs Mrs Mary G Browning Top o the Hill Arlington is another who has spent many 1 years in the fascinating pastime of trying to breed a colt or filly a little better than the previous one Mrs Browning takes a personal interest in the establishment that she and her husband Fred have built up and can generally be found any day close to the stables which shelter all the brood
