NEWMARKET, England.— At the New- market first spring meeting, Lord Derbys refugee" horse, Booby Trap, disappointed sadly when he could finish only third to Capt. J. U. Bailies Response and Sir Humphrey de Traffords Silurium in the Column Stakes. Booby Trap was bred at Lord Derbys stud in France, but his dam, Disguise, was sent to this country before the occupation of France by the Germans. His sire, Plassy, was not so fortunate and he was last reported to be in Germany. The winner of the Column Stakes, Response is not a hopeless sort of Derby horse — certainly no more hopeless than his sire, Fel-stead, at the same period of his career. His dam is Verdicts daughter, Versicle, by Sickle, which horse made a good reputation : as a sire in America after Lord Derby sold I him to Joseph E. Widener.
