PLUCKY MUFFIN, well ridden and never far back, went to the front approaching the stretch, then withstood a brisk drive to retain his advantage. DEVILSAND assumed command early, made the pace under occasional urging to the upper turn, then failed to hold the winner. SPEEDWAY, forced to take up when caught in close quarters at the start, worked his way forward steadily when clear and finished strongly in a sharp effort. SEA TACK forced the pace to the upper turn, then weakened. HOMER on the outside throughout, failed to rally when subjected to punishment and did not appear to like the muddy track. PARI KING was outrun. MODEL C. tired. DEPRECIATION never was prominent. Overweight— Devilsand, 1 pound; Pari King, 2; Depreciation, 3. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE out of chute. BRIGHT TRACE, alertly handled, went to the front early, shook off ZACAPHOTE entering the stretch and continued gamely to withstand SENATE. The latter, never far back and saving ground, finished resolutely in a good effort, but could not get to the winner. EBONY EDGE, outrun to the stretch and roughed during the first quarter, came to the outside for the drive and closed with a rush. MILK ROUTE, forced wide entering the stretch, made a good bid when straightened up, then weakened nearing the finish. HERE GOES raced evenly without mishap. KHAYYAMS KID had early speed. SNAPPY VERSE could not keep up. GALLANTRY was outrun. MR. X began sluggishly. ZACAPHOTE broke fast, forced the pace to the stretch, then gave way. JOHNS BIRD and ECOMODATE were never serious factors. DOC YAK saved ground while outrun to the stretch, held on willingly under a steady hand ride in the drive and disposed of DENTAL CHAIR during the last sixteenth. DENTAL CHAIR assumed command early, bore out badly while setting the pace and, continuing to drift out during the stretch run, failed to withstand the winner. HARRY 0. came willingly in the final quarter, but could not get to the leaders. NUDNICK began fast, but could not keep up. GERANIUM had no mishap. GRAND FLASH was never dangerous and did not like the muddy going. CEE HIGH raced prominently to the stretch, then bled. LUCKY FLICKER refused to extend herself in the mud and was eased. GINNYS PRIDE, forwardly placed and a keen factor from the beginning, came willingly when hard ridden through the stretch and was up in the last sixteenth. HALCYON AIR, outrun to the stretch, came to the extreme outside for the drive and, responding to punishment, was getting to the winner at the finish. ELBEKAY went to the front early and made the pace until nearing the end, then faltered. LITTLE STING, permitted to swerve in the stretch run, faltered in the last sixteenth. MERRY MARY began fast, but could not keep up. SILVERS PRIDE did not like the muddy track and tired in the final quarter. SEA PIGEON was never a serious factor. Scratched-98212 Dranik, 118. MIBOB moved up boldly entering the stretch, then gave way. WHYSO was done early. BONALITA quit after racing prominently to the stretch. UMPYDAN, away fast and under superb handling, raced nearest DIAMOND DICK until near the finish, responded to punishment and disposed of the latter during the final sixteenth. DIAMOND DICK, hustled to the front early, held a short lead when settled for the drive, but was unable to withstand the winner, although easily best of the others. SIR SPRITE moved up boldly entering the stretch, but could not better his positoin when hard ridden during the drive. MANY LANDS, outrun early, was on the outside throughout and failed to respond when roused for the stretch run PLAY HANDS raced well to the last three-eighths, then weakened. SON FOREVER raced wide and never was dangerous. JIMMIE could not keep up. TIGER MAN began slowly and would not extend himself in the muddy footing. BUILDER was outrun after breaking fast. JOHN Q. PUBLIC had early speed, but failed to stay. INCRESCENT gave way after the opening quarter. Scratched— 84703 Air Sailor, 120. Overweight— Umpydan, 2 pounds; Play Hands, 2.
