FINAL GLORY held sway in hand to the stretch, readily gave way to the winner, yet had enough left to withstand the challenge of VALDINA DATE. The latter, never a great distance back, closed resolutely on the outside. UNCLE OTHO received a hustling ride, but did not keep up in the drive. SANTA CLAUS raced wide and was held safe. SHUT EYE, taken under restraint in the first eighth and raced wide in the final five-eighths, moved forward gradually, could not get to the winner and weakened in the last furlong. WALKIE TALKIE raced wide from the beginning and, allowed to better his position gradually, got to the front under mild pressure, then bore in badly in the final furlong and just lasted. BULL PLAY, well up from the beginning and in hand to the final quarter where he cut to the inside, closed determinedly while in close quarters and barely failed to get up. His rider lodged a claim of foul against the winner, which was not allowed. HISTORIAN, under snug restraint to the last three-sixteenths, was racing well when forced back as WALKIE TALKIE veered before him entering the last furlong and came again when clear. SIGMA KAPPA had speed, was holding on well when impeded by the winner inside the last furlong and might otherwise have finished closer. PARASANG closed fast on the outside through the last furlong. SIRIUS, forced back early, was not a serious threat thereafter. NAVY CROSS weakened after showing good early speed. DEVALUE dropped back steadily for five-eighths, swung to the outside on the last turn, moved forward gradually under good pressure and, strongly handled, outfinished ROCKWOOD LOU. The latter, in hand from the start and taken back when between horses leaving the backstretch, swung to the inside when clear, came out sharply when racing strongly in the final eighth, caused much crowding, then held on well when straight, but could not withstand the winner and was disqualified for the fouling and placed third. REAL SHORT made the early pace under steady rating, came out slightly in the stretch, was sharply impeded while fighting it out gamely in the drive and never fully recovered. WINTER RULES, not persevered with when outrun, was eased when blocked, due to the swerving of horses before him entering the last eighth and otherwise might have finished closer up. DONNA BRAND, in hand to the stretch, rallied mildly, but was tiring when impeded inside the final eighth. VANFLAG weakened after forcing the pace to the last three-sixteenths.
