. ; Polynesian Takes Atlantic Inaugural Closes Stoutly in Stretch To Lead Home Air Patrol Before 12,000 Jerseyites ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., May 26. Running in his best form, the Elmendorf Farms Polynesian added the Atlantic City Inaugural Handicap to a long list of stake victories this afternoon, the five-year-old Unbreakable stallion covering the six furlongs in 1:11, and holding Air Patrol and the lightly-burdened Lighthouse at a respectable distance in the drive. Highweight of the party with 130 pounds, Polynesian was always the strongest sort of factor in this race, and the opening days crowd that backed him down to 4 to 5 in the wagering, never had any real cause for uneasiness. Lighthouse was the early leader, and did not surrender easily, and Air Patrol, well rated by R. J. Martin, made a perfectly timed bid. Atlantic City enjoyed good weather for the opening that attracted a crowd of some "12,000, Broken Bridle Delays Start Lighthouse, due to- a broken bridle, caused a few minutes delay at the gate in the feature and Polynesians many partisans hardly enjoyed his standing in the gate with 130 pounds on his back. When the field for the Inaugural did get away, the start was good for all but William Helis grey Greek Warrior. This one dwelt badly, but the other seven were away in a package. Lighthouse had a length at the quarter, and it was already evident that this Knave High three-year-old was going to be hard to catch. Polynesian, hugging the rail, was second and running very strongly, while Martin, off well with Air Patrol, was giving his mount a slight breather, but still within immediate striking distance. Looping for home, Arcaro called on Polynesian and the brown stallion responded immediately, and at the eighth pole his victory could be predicted.
