CHRYS-DOLL forged to the front soon after the start, was under mild restraint while setting the pace and held GOLDIES SUGAR safe in the drive. The latter made repeated efforts to wrest the lead rounding the turn, but was not good enough. LETTER V, slow to settle in best stride, responded to urging entering the stretch and closed resolutely. JOEL went evenly. RED VULCAN failed to rally. PROTECTOR had early speed. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. HULLABALOO, a forward factor from the beginning, responded to urging to engage the leaders in the final sixteenth, swerved in to the rail while assuming the lead just beyond the seventy-yard pole, bothering both WISE MAHMOUD and ANCHORESS for which he was disqualified ,and placed third. WISE MAHMOUD forged to the front at once, opened up a clear lead rounding the turn, was displaced by ANCHORESS in the early stretch and was racing closest to the latter when HULLABALOO came over just before the finish. ANCHORESS raced closest to the pace after a quarter, remained on the outside to wrest the lead at the furlong pole and was enjoying a slight advantage when HULLABALOO came over, forcing the rider to snatch up. BRIAR WHITE was unable to improve his position. BOW PEN had brief early speed. Scratched 21371 Bullet Bill, 120; 229893 Foxy Play, 120. NAVAL BASE forged to the front soon after the start and saved- ground thereafter, but was unable to resist the winner. LANDLORD improved his position gradually. DON MILLER was a forward factor for a half mile, then weakened. HADRIAN failed to rally when roused. GALAMILK had brief early speed. AIR PATROL was a forward factor from the start, challenged POLYNESIAN for the lead in the early, stretch, but gave ground steadily in the drive. LIGHTHOUSE was hustled to the front at the start, drew out to a clear lead through the opening quarter, but gave ground steadily when displaced by POLYNESIAN. INROC circled horses to gain a contending position at the head of the stretch, then weakened. KING DORSETT, slow to settle in best stride, failed to rally when put to a drive. HIPPODROME was never a prominent contender. GORGET had early speed. GREEK WARRIOR was outrun. LORD CALVERT raced closest to ON THE RIVER, saved ground to assume the lead entering the stretch, but was unable to resist the winner. MISS WAR was forwardly placed from the start and had no excuse. COLLETO closed ground in the final furlong. SALVO had early speed. ON THE RIVER was hustled to the front at the start, drew mto a clear lead through the backstretch, but weakened badly when displaced by LORD CALVERT. DARBY DIEPPE was never a factor.
