Rdinpart Successful in Valley Forge Overtakes Rippey In Final Sixteenth SixteenthHaggerty Haggerty Mare Gains Neck Decision in Camden Stake As Senoril Finishes Third ThirdGARDEN GARDEN STATE PARK Camden N J May 8 Rampart was steered through an opening in the late stages of the running Of the one mile 15000 Valley Forge Handicap and landed right smack in the winners circle The successful representa ¬ tive of Mrs Helene K Haggerty of Hat boro Pa nailed the pacesetting Rippey a few feet from the finish and completed the run in 139 to obtain a hard earned neck decision and spring a 2160 tote payoff to her scattered backers in the crowd of 24000 24000William William G Helis Rippey whose rider Robert J Martin tried desperately to keep his mount going held the place only by three parts of a length from Allan T Hurffs Argentinebred Senoril Fourth position a neck farther back was taken by Maine Chance Farms Knockdown Mrs Elizabeth Graham mistress of Maine Chance was in the gathering of enthus ¬ iastic sport fans on hand for this seventh running of the Valley Forge ForgeBefore Before the official sign was put up the stewards considered a claim of foul lodged by jockey Douglas Dodson who piloted Knockdown against Senoril It was con tended Senoril came over on Knockdown inside the last sixteenth of a mile The stewards did not allow the foul foulSenoril Senoril Victim of Roughing RoughingSenoril Senoril might have been the winner but for being the victim of roughing by Rip ¬ pey The latters rider swung the Helis fiveyearold over sharply in front of Sen ¬ oril in the run around the far curve This tactic caused Senoril to be eased up sharp ¬ ly and taken to the outside Then when the Hurff fouryearold again got started and moved alongside of Rippey in the closing stages Martin permitted the latter to bear out causing Senoril to be eased back steered to the inside and in so doing moved over on Knockdown KnockdownRampart Rampart who holds a decision over Armed it having been accomplished last January at Gulfstream Park increased his earnings by 14425 with this Valley Forge score He was expertly ridden by Mike Basile BasileRippey Rippey went to the front almost with the start and in short order established a clear advantage over Knockdown who was followed by Senoril with Rampart next In the run down the backstretch Senoril replaced Knockdown while Rampart gave ground to some extent the latters rider evidently having decided to give the mare a breather while Rippey and Senoril dueled dueledAt At the threefurlong marker when Rip ¬ pey blocked Senoril Rampart as well as Turbine and Bright Sword began to move On entering the stretch the ultimate win ¬ ner along with the others who had moved forward bunched up and Basile was in tight quarters with Rampart But inside the last sixteenth horses fanned out and Basile urged the Haggerty colorbearer up through the opening and on to victory
