Aldershot Wins Adelaide Cup In Thrilling Neck Finish ADELAIDE, Australia, May 15 Reuters. — In one of the most thrilling finishes in the history of the race, Mrs. H. G. Raymonds Aldershoti by Enfield— Little Sister, won the ,960 Adelaide Cup over two miles at the Morphetsville course here Wed- • nesday. Aldershot beat A. J. Lees Winstons Gift by a short neck with G. Lewis Double Blank, a neck away in third place. Aldershot was ridden by the crack Sydney jockey, Jack Thompson, who rode in England, and Ireland in 1950. Aldershot was unplaced in the Fisher Handicap Saturday after a slight collision at the barrier and he was eased in the betting but became firm again when Thompson was given the mount instead of a local jockey. This was Thompsons first mount in south Australia and with nine Melbourne jockeys also engaged, only five local riders were in the race. Aldershot is the fifth successive Victorian horse to win the Adelaide. A crowd of 45,000 was on hand to see Aldershot cover the two miles distance in 3:25%.
