Suspension Costs Rodriguez Preakness Mount on Jampol GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 15. — Eugenio Rodriguez lost his mount on Max Kahlbaums Jampol in the Preakness through his suspension yesterday. Kahlbaum had asked that the suspension be lifted, but since the riding engagement had not been filed either at Pimlico or at Garden State, the stewards here did not rescind the ban. The stewards here said that if the Jampol engagement had been on list either here or there they would have left it up to the Maryland board to decide, but since it was not they felt they could not go against the New Jersey racing rule that firmly states, "A jockey under temporary suspension shall not ride in a race for anyone during the period of his suspension, except for his contract employe and only with the stewards consent." Rodriguez is not under contract for Kahlbaum and so his fellow Cuban rider, Fernando Fernandez, one of the real veterans of the saddle, will get the mount in the Preakness.
