MARENGO, never a great, distance back, raced on the outside to the stretch, wore down the leaders while under pressure and had enough left to hold BEST CHANCE safe. The latter, held in reserve early, circled his field when rallying on the final turn and was easily best of the others. BEDA BULL, slow to start, also came out for the drive, but could not menace the lop pair. LONG EATON tired from his early effort. BLACK AL was never a contender. The latter was never far back, wrested command from the outside while under pressure on entering the stretch, but was not quite gccd enough. WITCH DOCTOR found his best stride too Late while finishing fastest of all. ARIEL SWEEP also closed some ground in the late stages. COUNT PUR was void of earJy speed. CLOSING NIGHT, badly outrun early, also circled his field when rallying and finished full of run. BRACERO, never far back, was forced to alter course to the inside on entering the stretch and appeared to hang slightly in the final drive. F. 0. BEE found his best stride too late. LITTLE CHATTER, far back for the first half-mile, came to the extreme outside to make her bid on entering the stretch and wore down BRIAR CREEK with a rush in the closing strides. The latter was never a great distance back, also rallied from the outside on the final turn and after assuming command a furlong out was unable to withstand the belated bid of the winner. COUSIN GEORGE had speed, saved ground and faltered. STEP AND TAKE was used up in vying for the early lead. . CASH REQUEST tired from her pacemaking efforts. PETE HARDEY was through early. The latter engaged BEL ESPRIT early, put that one away from the outside on entering the stretch and just failed to last. BEL ESPRIT had speed, saved ground and gave way suddenly. RECEIPT had no apparent excuse in an even effort. BURNT CHILD was allowed to drop far back in the early stages. NEROS MERMAID was never a contender. MAHARAJAH attained a striking position early, raced slightly wide to the final three furlongs where he came to the inside while drawing out and, under strong handling, outfinished CASCANUEZ. The latter, forced to stead while blocked along the inside for the first six furlongs, came to the outside when clear in the run down the backstretch to make a bold bid and, while unable to handle the v/inner, was easily best of the others. LOVELY WAVE, unhurried for the first mile, came to the extreme outside to make her bid but could not seriously threaten. PRINCE HILL, held in reserve early, came to the outside to make his bid cn the final turn but had little left when the real test came. LANDSCAPING showed speed for a mile. SWEDE PETE had speed from the start, raced between horses and, after, disposing of SARA-CHANA on entering the stretch, was all out to stall eff GIN CHAMP. The latter, steadied along while being outrun early, came wide into the stretch and narrowly missed. CUANDEN stumbled leaving the gate, but quickly recovered to make a bold but belated bid.
