FORT ERIE MEETING ENDS BAD WEATHER AND POOR TRANSPORTATION AFFECT ATTENDANCE. Pinkola Is Backed as a Good Thing and Wins Last Meeting Under the Parmer-Hendrie Regime. Buffalo, N. Y-, September "2. With the running of the race this afternoon won by Excitement, jame the end of the season at Fort Erie. Incidentally It also brought to a close Messrs. Parmer, and Hcndries control of the plant as lessees. Messrs. Cclla, Condon, Stuart and Madigan, the new owners, will take charge on November 1 ami will in future operate the plant under the name of the. Niagara Jockey Club. It had been the intention to prolong the sport at least during this week, but lack of facilities to transport the people to the course" made it advisable to discontinue. Threatening weather caused a bigger shrinkage of patronage today that the racing der served, as a good card was offered. Most of the contests were spirited, despite the sticky goiiig and the majority of favorites wore returned winners. It was a jovial lot that made the homeward journey. All sorts of vehicles, from hay wagons to automobiles were pressed Into use to convey passengers to the ferry to Buffalo. The victory of Pinkola in the only allowance race during the afternoon, was achieved in a rather handy fashion and brought considerable profit to his owner, who backed him extensively away from here. In the closing race Reboundcr was supported with a confidence that caused considerable comment. Froui an opening of 4 to 1, he was backed steadily until he shared favoritism with Excitement,, but towards post time be receded slightly. He proved a false alarm, as after going the first quarter he never seriously menaced Excitement, which won in a common canter. The third race, won by Toddles, came in for- sharp criticism because of E. Martins wretched ride of the favorite Bye Bye II. The youngster seemingly made but slight effort to steer his mount to victory. Keeping him behind Toddles throughout, there never was a. chance for him to pass the Gold-blatt candidate, which won in handy style. There was some question as to whether Moreland, on the winner, had not impeded Bye Bye II., but the judges, after questioning Martin, felt satisfied that no foul bad been committed and that Martin was chiefly to blame for the interference. The protest made by Mose Goldblatt Saturday against the payment of the purse to Sally Prestons, owners in the Fort Eric selling stakes was not sustained by the judges. The strings of J. W. Pangle, M. Nlcol and A. B. Stausbury will go to Montreal tomorrow. . J. U. Strode, P.. M. Civill. W. II . Frey,. M. Goldblatt and A. Stelle will ship during the week to Lexington, Ky., where they will await the opening of the meeting there. Jockey G. Swain departed last night for New York, where he will ride for James McLaughlin, Sr. The Pasadena Stable, owned by the Williams Brothers, will be shipped from here direct to Emeryville, Cal., and rested there until November.
