FIRETHORN BADLY INJURED HOMEWOOD, 111., June 22.— The injury Firethorn suffered while working over a muddy course here Thursday not only forced him out of the American Derby but may prevent him from filling other of his summer engagements. In rapping himself the W. M. Jeffords three-year-old inflicted a deep flesh wound that may require two weeks or more to heal. As a possible preventative of blood poisoning he was inoculated this morning, and if nothing more serious develops he will be shipped back to New York in company of his stable companion, Judy OGrady, tomorrow.
