Gehrmann Lowers British Record for 1,000-Yard Run LONDON, England, June 2 TJP .— Don Gehrmann of "Wisconsin broke the British record for the 1,000-yard run today when he raced the distance in 2:11.0 in the wind-up of a two-day track meet at White City Stadium. t Gehrmann also, came back later to win the 440-yard race in 49.2 seconds to score a "double" for the day. In the 1,000, Gehrmann beat bill Nanke-ville of England by a yard as he" clipped two-tenths of a second off the recognized British mark set by Cyril Ellis in 1929. Nankeville also set an English native record when he was timed in 2:11.1. Milton Campbell of Pleasantville, N. J., won the 100-meter dash in 10.7 seconds, with Bill Dwyer of Providence, R. I., third. Campbell beat Britains W. Jack by a yard and a half. The two-mile race was won by Gordon Pirie of London in 9:08.6, finishing 80 yards in front of Curtis Stone, former Perm State star.
