KAY SPENCE. IS RULED OFF. LIKEWISE "DUTCH" BROWN, FOREMAN OF HIS STABLE AT CITY PARK. Judges Find That Brown and Spence Had a Hand in the Drugging of Grenade Jack Dolans Good Race. New Orleans, La., March 5. Judges Trevelyan and Murphy, though still prosecuting investigation of the drugging of the horse Grenade on Thursday last at City Park, today announced that as a result oC the evidence at hand owner Kay Spence and his foreman William Dutch Brown, are ruled off the the turf. The ruling as handed out read as follows: "For offensive touting, Kay Spence and William Dutch Brown, are ruled off the turf. The horses owned hy Spence Keynote, Magistrate and La Thorpe are included in the ruling." The story as told hy people who claim to have knowledge of the case is that Brown was the person who "framed up" the game. He obtained chloral at a downtown drugstore and eithor gave it to the horse himself or influenced some one in James MoCormicks stable to administer the drug. At all events, Brown is said to have been the chief perpetrator. He let Spence in on the deal and the latter, It is alleged, endeavored to have a bookmaker lay against the horse. Spence is widely known in the west. He brought out and developed jockey Aiibuchon. Brown has been employed in the east by various owners during the past ten years, lie rubbed First Mason and Colonial Girl for C. 15. Rowe last summer and previous to that he worked for S. C. Hildretli and W. M. Rogers. Brown disappeared very suddenly on Friday last when he found that the judges- had information as to his connection with the affair. Jack Dolan ran behind .Massive until straightened out in the stretch where he moved up and finished with a rush. The stable of W. C. Daly will leave here for Ben-nings on Thursday. Several other stables will leave for the Washington track within the next ten days. J. B. Lewman received word from Louisville, Ky., that one of his broodmares, Tarpeia, lied yesterday while foaling. Tarpeia was the dam of. W. II. Snyder and Co.s Trapper. Hugh McCarrens Miss Jack died at Midway, Ky., while foaling twins. McCarren has eleven mares at Shlpps farm and live of them have already slipped their foals. Jockey, C. Morris was suspended by starter Cas-sldy for two days for disobedience at the post. Jenkins Brothers today disposed of Iole and Percy Clark to T. and P. Morrison for ,000.
