J. O. KEENE REFUSES 5,000 FOR RADTKE. Offer Is Made by Hunter Raine After Lad Rides Four Winners ot Oaklawn. Hot Springs, Ark., March 5. Jockey Radtke adderi trreatlv to his fame and gave an exhibition of horsemanship on two occasions that will long be remembered by those who witnessed the sport at Oak-lawn this afternoon. It was his good riding that Hcored victory for Pontotoc and Malalda. The lad s ability was Quickly recognized by the spectators and the rider was given a long ovation on each occasion when returning to the scales. Radtke also won on Barbaros and San Priino. The quartet of winners were all from the stable of his contract employer J O and G. H. Keene. After the racing was over, ail offer of 5,000 for the unexpired term. of the hovB contract was made to Jack Keene by Hunter Kaine of Memphis. The offer was promptly refused. C T Gardner furnished the other pair of winners for the afternoon, Haughty taking the initial race, and Nissa, the luckiest ot the others, taking the youngster race. The start in this race was starter Snyders worst effort since taking up his duties here. Three of the eleven horses were left at the post, and the majority of the others being away in a tangled condition. Haughty and Nlssa were both ridden by jockey Callus, the victory on Haughty being the first of his short career. Todays "arrivals included "Whitey" Langdon. Several stables, including that of Walter Gum, got in today. There is again a rumor that Essex Park may attempt a race meeting this spring. William Shannon, the principal owner of the plant, will, in all probability, leave for New Orleans tomorrow to confer with members ot the American Turf Association and attend "a meeting Qf that organization to lie held in the Crescent City next Thursday. At that meeting it is said, it will be fully determined by Mr. Shannon what action he will take regarding Kssex Park.
