RAMS HORN K IN SUPERIOR CONDITION. Easy Victory Under Heavy Impost Ben Hodder Lucky to Beat Goldsmith for Second. New Orleans, La., March 5. Rams Horn won his race with ease at Crescent Park today. The Vto pounds he shouldered did not seem to bother him any. Perrine kept him well out from the rail ail the way veidently to avoid any chance of the horse being eut down and took the lead when he wanted to. If Captain Williams can keep him in his present form there is no question but that he will, render a good account of himself both at Memphis ! and in the east. Ben Hodder, the Derby candidate, which finished second to him was lucky to beat Goldsmith, which had unusual difficulties to overcome, considering the small size of the field, but for all that his race was a creditable one and lost him none of his Derby following. Jockey Itedfern will have his first mount of the meeting tomorrow on Shunpike, a bad horse, but in with a bad lot. As the weight is 120 pounds, be will have no trouble in making it. Lucien Lyne will also ride, providing Rapid Water starts. He is in the fourth race and has enougli weight up for any one to ride. It is, however, doubtful if lie goes. Disobedient, which is really the Derby favorite, niakes his first start here, and a line on his chances can be drawn through Guiding Star, a prominent candidate which has raced several times during the winter.
