CLAUDE, WINOFFOUK DEEBYS, IS DEAD. M. J. Dalys Noted Campaigner Expires at Edward Corrigans Farm Near Lexington, Ky. Lexington, Ky., June 20. Claude. M. J. Dalys sterling campaigner which entered the stud at Edward Corrigans farm near this city last spring, died tliis morning. Claude was a six-year-old bay horse by Lissak Lida H. He was bred by W. P. Knight, of Nicholasville, Ky., and as a yearling became the property of S. C. Wagner, of Dayton, O., from whom he passed in his two-year-old form to M. J. Daly. Claude was sick only a few minutes. His death appears to have been due to internal troubles, the rupture of an intestine probably. Claude was certainly a poor mans friend. He was the foundation of Mike Dalys fortune. During his career on the turf he won 152 races, eighteen of them stakes, and several of thcui overnight handicaps. His two greatest races were when he carried 127 pounds to The Pickets 11", and finished second to him in the American Derby of 1903, which was run In record time for that event, and again when lie carried 132 pounds and finished second in the Burns Handicap in California. In 1003 Claude won four Derbys, the California, the St. Louis, the Tennessee and the Canadian Derby at Fort Erie. He won over .1906.sh3,000 in purses and probably double that amount in wagers for Mr. Daly. He traveled probably more miles than any other great thoroughbred that ever raced in this country. A dispatch from Buffalo says. Mr. Daly wlll have the horses remains interred at Corrigans farm and a monument will be erected- over his grave.
