THE USUAL TWO FOR GARDNER AT WINDSOR. Charlie Gilbert Easily Wins the Stake Event Rubaiyat Takes the Fifth Race in a Drive. Detroit. Mich., June 20. The Royal Oak Farm Stakes was the feature at Windsor this" afternoon. Tlie track was a trille slow and the starters in the race dwindled down to four at post time, the presence of Charlie Gilbert, the crack from the Gardner barn, evidently being the cause of their retirement. At the last moment Mr. Gardner withdrew Bouviac, a stake winner at Hamilton, and added Restoration. There was hardly any necessity for this as Charlie Gilbert was able to take care of himself in the company he met, while Restoration ran a dull race. Glimmer, a stake winner at Toronto, was the only one to give Charlie Gilbert an argument. Glimmer j j 1 led for half of the four and a half furlongs, when C Charlie GMhtI ran past liiui and won as bis rider pleased. Restoration was a length back, while Pinafore, the fourth starter, was beaten off. The Gardner stable won the usual two races, the colors being carried to victory in the fifth by Rubai- . .vat. In the backstretch Rubaiyat looked like a ion to 1 shot. From the three-eighths post he made up a dozen length and finding a narrow opening in the stretch, came through and just got up in time to -land the purse by a head. Jockey Foley was in the limelight today. He rode the .winners in the last three races, one of -them, Ed Trotters Scalplock, being the medium of , a mild plunge. Scalplock ran to his Memphis form and, although under pressure all through the stretch, J won handily. The ring received another jolt when Tom Gilroy won the second race. He showed a sudden revival and ran a much better race than he had previously shown on this circuit. Miss Martha, which had more sliced than necessary the day before, was beaten off.
