Momentum sprinted away from his opponents in the first quarter and, opening a winning lead, was well in hand in the last furlong. Jim Leonard easily disposed of Scotia Belle when it came to a drive, but was doing his best at the finish to stall off Ballston Boy. The latter finished fast. The last four were as good as left at the post.
