DATE QUESTION STILL OPEN. WINN AND HACHMEISTER HAVE A CONFER-ENCE AT LATONIA. Both Think Agreement Will Be Reached Shortly Outline of the Proposition Tame Sport at the Kentucky Track. Cincinnati, O., August 1. Todays card was made np of five selling races and a steeplechase, and a poor lot of horses met in competition. Speculation, however, continued brisk and the talent had, for the first time in three days, a shade on the layers at the close of the afternoon. Dalesman fenced In superb style and aided by his pull in the weights outstayed Subador, the favorite, for the steeplechase. All but four starters declined the issue in the original fifth race because of Elastics presence, so the race was declared off and a six furlongs race which attracted a dozen entries, was substituted. Good things were plentiful. The betting on Collon-ade and Mint Boy was especially heavy. The latter was pounded down from 5 to 1 to 8 to 5. Neither finished among the placed horses, Oak Grove, at 30 to 1, taking the purse in hollow style. Immediately after the close of the racing a fire broke out in a cottage close to the track. A barn in the rear of the burning building In which a number of horses, Including Dr. Hart, were stabled caught and the horses were with great difficulty saved from the conflagration. ;A-mlshap-ccurred-!Woi -after thestart for tner third race. Lady Charade stumbled with and threw jockey C. Morris heavily. The rider escaped injury miraculously. The horses behind jumped over him as lie lay on the ground. Matt Winn, manager of Churchill Downs, arrived here .today from Louisville and had a long conference with John Hachmeister concerning the division of dates for fall racing at Louisville. After the conference both stated that nothing definite had been determined. They said, however, that an understanding would be reached in the next few days. The proposition under consideration has been outlined as follows: "Douglas Park is to begin racing on Monday, September 3, and to continue until Saturday, September 15. The State Fair begins the following Monday and continues that week. No racing will be then conducted excepting a mixed meeting; under the auspices of the fair management. Douglas Park will then resume for a period of six days. Churchill Downs to follow and race until October 18, Latonla will then come in for a fall meeting beginning October 19, and run right up to the opening of the Fair Grounds at New Orleans. This would give each of the tracks at Louisville a period of eighteen days." As the connections of both associations have shown a willingness to reach an amicable understanding, there should be little diflicnlty in adjusting matters so that application for the dates can be made to the Racing Commission at that bodys meeting next week". The judges here were notified by Secretary McAllister of the American Turf Association, that the executive committee of that body had granted a license to Jockey W- Buchanan. Agues Virginia bled after her race yesterday and will be turned out until fall. S. C. Wagner was among todays visitors having arrived from his home in Dayton, O. He disclaimed having won a big sum on Proposer. "1 won a bet on the horse, but not much to speak of," said he. Trainer Phillips stated today that NIcol will not go to Saratoga. He will remain here until the opening of Sheepshead Bay. Jockey D. Austin will leave for Saratoga Friday night, where he will ride the horses of his contract employer, T. P. Hayes. Jockey Ferrell, who it is said will shortly be restored to favor by the American Turf Association, will ride jumpers. At present he weighs 130 pounds and schools horses dally through the field.
