ARCADIA stakes complete FOURTEEN EVENTS, WITH AN ADDED VALUE OF 1,500, ANNOUNCED. Names, Distances and Values of the Events Meeting to Last Over 100 Days The General Plan. Los Angeles, Cal., September 20. George Rose and Barney Schreiber will leave here at once and go to Chicago for a conference with Judge Hamilton and Martin Nathanson, "reaching there about October 2. Schreiber said about the new Santa Anita venture today: "The new racing organization is a sure go. The reason I have interested myself is that I wanted all angles in Los Angeles to be in perfect harmony with Mr. T. n. Williams, for I feel that as long as Mr. Williams is at the helm in California everything will be safe. I was afraid some one might start some trouble here and not bo friendly to the Pacific Coast Jockey Club. For this reason I have worked hard to avoid any trouble, and have succeeded. Mr. Rose and myself will be in Chicago about October 2." It is intended that the meeting at the new Arcadia track shall extend over a period of about ninety or one hundred racing days, but it Is probable that it will run from about December 1 until late in May, as the Emeryville season extends from November S until May 31. The general outlines of the racing program is for six races daily, no purse to be less than 400, with overnight handicaps four or six times a week, to which from 5C0 to 1,000 will be added. -Jack Atkin, who was intrusted- with - the taskv of arranging the stake events- to be decided at the winter meeting at Santa Anita Park, has completed the job and reported fourteen stakes to Rose and Schreiber. A total of 31,5C0 In added money is represented in these fourteen stakes. The Pomona Handicap at seven furlongs, with 1,500 added, will be the first stake race. It is believed the horses that will be shipped xto Santa Anita park for the winter meeting will not be in condition to go the long distances usually desired in; stake events, and for this reason the opening stake will not be a long-distance affair. Vernon, Garvanza, Gardena, Ventura, Santa Ana. Los Angeles and Santa Anita will be represented in the stake book with events named for them. At the suggestion of Barney Schreiber, the Rose Selling Stakes, the New Years feature event, has been increased from one and one-sixteenth miles to one and one-eighth miles, this being the only change made in the event as run at Ascot in the past. Rose contributes 1,000 of the added money offered. Woodlands Stakes, named for the famous Missouri breeding establishment owned by Barney Schreiber, will bo unchanged in conditions, dis- tance and added money. Schreiber contributes 500 of the added money. It was decided to make a change in the name of the high value handicap, and it will be known as the California Handicap, Instead of the Santa Anita Handicap, as originally planned. Colin, the unbeaten two-year-old champion of the year, is paid a graceful compliment in naming a stake for him. Emperor of Norfolk also is remembered. The great old horse that was a champion in his day, winner of an American Derby and sire of many stake winners, now at the. end of his career, will be kept in memory by the Norfolk Stakes, the second four-mile race to be established In America at this time. Following are the stakes, fourteen in number, with the distances and added money values: Pomona Handicap, seven furlongs, 1,500 added. Vernon Selling Stakes, one mile, 1,500 added.
