FIVE CLOSE FINISHES AT LATONIA. Lexolinc was lucky at that, for, with better handling, Monsignor would have won. A crazy lot of many-time beaten fillies and mares went to the post in the opening race and they gave the starter and his assistants all sorts of trouble. Viperine won after a long drive through the stretch to overhaul the poorly ridden Dnlcinea. Rose of Pink, backed heavily, acted greenly at the barrier and Ada Rice and My Queen of the Roses were vicious and kicked at everything in sight. Ada Rice is an Importation from the Algiers half-mile track. J. C. Milam took his daily purse, this time witli Ouardi. Hans, making his first start since his return from the east, was best of the youngsters in the fifth race and won easily. Miss Stronie enabled Cellas colors to be seen In front when she beat out Beatrice K. All the finishes, excepting in the race won by Hans, were close, but little enthusiasm was manifested by the big crowd. William "Red" Walker, arrived here this morning with eighteen horses from Toronto. Jockeys Lycurgus and C. Koerner also landed. R. L. Thomas has requested stable room for ten horses that ho intends to ship here Friday. 1 Luzader will also bring a consignment of racers and lias been allotted stall room.
