SCHREIBERS EPSOM DERBY PLANS. Has Not Yet Made Nominations to the English Classic. The widely printed story from the west about Barney Schreiber having- nominated a band of youngsters for the- English Derby of 100!, turns out to l ave been premature. Schreiber intends to make some nominations for the English classic. He outlines his plans in a personal letter to the writer, in which he says: "In regard to nominating some colts in the English Derby, I shall do so if it is not too late. I have some grand-looking brothers to Dr. Gardner, Xealon and .Tee Carey that are fit to be nominated in any stake anywhere. The Woodlands youngsters get better in size anil quality each year." .Mr. SehrriVrs first chance is in the big Epsom rare of HS10.. Nominations for the race of 1009 closed in July last. Derby candidates are entered as yearlings, two years before the race. The conditions of the race are as follows: The Derby of fi.f.OO sovereigns 30,CC0, the winner to receive 5,000 sovereigns 25,000, the nominator of the winner 500 sovereigns 2,500, the owner of the second 300 sovereigns 1.500, the owner of the third 200 sovereigns 1,000, out of the race. For three-year-old colts, nine stones 120 wounds. ,and iillies eight stone nine pounds 121 pounds. Entrance- live sovereigns 25, the only liability if declared to Messrs. Weatherby by tl:eIast Tuesday In January following nomination, twenty sovereigns 1C0 in addition if not so declared, and if left in after the first Tuesday in January following, a further sum of twenty-live sovereign. lf,0. With at least 1,000 sovereigns 5,f!00 given from the race fund added to the stake. About one mile and a half.
