DURNELLS FIRST CALL ON DUGAN. The report that R. T. Wilson, Jr., had signed Durnells lightweight jockey, E. Dugan, for next year is denied by Durnell. In making the denial Darnell says that Mr. Wilson lias purchased second call on the boy from him for ,000, but he will retain first call himself for next year and make Dugans engageriB-nts as he has done this year. No one has made any arrangements with him for third call on the boy, says Durnell, but he is willing to fill out the book with a first-class stable. Dugans contract was purchased from Lester Lee and Son by Barney Schreiber and Durnell at Oakland last spring for 3,000, and his apprentice allowance does not expire until the middle of next month. It has since been reported that Durnell purchased Schroibers interest in the contract last summer for ,000. Willi Walter Miller rapidly increasing in weight, Dugan will likely be the leading lightweight of next year. Dugan is now close to the top of the list of winning jockeys and a close second" to Miller in popularity as a skillful rider. He can ride at ninety pounds and is not yet out of his teens. .
