Hancock, off poorly, moved up gradually to a contending position, caught Herman Johnson tiring at the head of the stretch and, in a hard drive, just got up. Herman Johnson set a fast pace and just lasted long enough to save second place. Ida Reck, nearly left, ran around on the outside, came like a shot through the stretch and just nipped third place from the tiring Diebold. The latter ran a good race.
