E 1 1 n t I 1 1 1 1 BURLEIGH STILL IN WINNING FORM. I rakes the Last Oakland Race in Fast Time I Favorites Successful. Oakland, Cal., December 12. Todays card at Oakland lacked stake features and its running was c uneventful, but the regularity with which the horses supported by the general public scored, made ample amends for any shortcomings it may have had in the 1 matter of good class runners. ThevDuke of Orleans i upset in the second race was the only break in the continuity of profitable ring operations enjoyed by the majority of race-goers present. i Glorious weather for racing prevailed and ap- 1 proximately 0,000 spectators witnessed a satisfactory days sport. The public was chary of backing the horses quoted at short odds in the first half of the program. The crowd would have none of Moore Johnson, Crip and Nine Spot, despite Millers presence in the saddle on the last named., as not one of these favorites was of the publics making and their several defeats only augmented their, satisfaction. The results of the. last three races swelled the profits of the backers. Not one of the victorious trio of winners, Prince Brutus, Meada and Burleigh, ever gave them a moments uneasiness. The last named, which was ridden by Miller, was the hottest tip of the afternoon. It was given out during the morning that S. C. Hildretli had made John Lowe a present of Wap. The colt won in the stalde trainers colors. Moore Johnson broke down in the -first and Crip In the next race, the latter so badly that he. was unable to hobble off the" track. He was subsequently destroyed. ,Guy Curtis, a son of a former sheriff of San Franciscd, made his debut as a professional race rider on Tawasentha in the fourth race. The spectators gave him a rousing send-off. Belle of Iroquois was. sold to Matt Reiss today. M. J. Daly also disposed of Salvage to W. B. Jennings, who, subsequently turned his jiejvfc.. purchase over to, W. W. Finn. The stewards suspended jockey Galindp a week for rough riding; and the starter set E. Lynch down for two days for misbehavior at the post. Clerk of the course Horace Egbert was too ill the last two days to attend .to bis race track duties. Ben Snow, Bud Hansel and Frank Dwyer are the latest arrivals from the cast. Jockey Hadtke has secured an engagement to ride in Russia next season for Michael de Lazarell. He must report to his employer in February. J. A. Bennet and his string "left for Arcadia last night. S. C. Hildreth has abandoned the idea of sending a portion of his string to Santa Anita to race. The unknown man, who it was alleged attempted to bribe jockey Pendergast to pull one of his mounts recently, has disappeared. Pendergast now avers that he does not know the name of the culprit. Jockey John Hennessy is here, but is not riding as yet.
