Nellie Racine made up - ground in the final quarter and finished gamely under the whip. Optician set the pace fast, but quit after entering the stretch. Edwin Gum, badly outpaced for the first half, came through like a shot in the final eighth into an easy second. Colonel . lack-was much used in setting a terrific pace for the first half and tired badly in the stretch drive. Galla-vant was speedy, tired only in the final sixteenth and is ready. The latter closed a big gap and, in a sharp last. eighth drive, was gradually catching the winner at the end. Kerry showed much the most early speed and tired when the pinch came, but held on gamely. Whidden came from far back in tlie final eighth, finishing with a tush. Ben Stone ran well to the stretch, but failed to stay. Balreed quit badly. Overweights Balreed. 3 pounds.
