NOTES OF THE TURF. V Jockey Keogh is not showing his good form at the Victoria meeting. T. W. OBrien paid ,400 for Mellowmint. which he acquired from J. It. Taylor a day or two ago; nugh MeCarrens yearlings have arrived at La-touia and he will put in some time breaking them. Sir Wooster cost A. II. Iligginson of Boston ,500. Tom Wilson will train the horse for his new owner. Walter O. Parmer writes that every bit of stable room at Windsor has been taken, and that the prospects are for the best meeting ever held there. Cavalcadour, a contestant in the first raee at Empire City Monday, came to this country from France about a year ago with a mare called Poterile. He Is a big black horse. General Stephen Sanfords horses have not yet lieen transferred from Amsterdam, but trainer II. II. Hyner will have them at Saratoga in ample time to give the horses he intends to race the first week of the meeting preliminary gallops over the course. Charles Van Meter is a recruit to the running turf from the trotting circuit. Until two years ago Mr. Van Meter followed the trots altogether. He is an expert reinsman and he developed the trotters Phantom, which he sold to James Butler, and Frank Kinney, which he sold to Thomas W. Lawson. He Is a Kentuckian. Commenting upon the fact that J. Glass rode Evening Song In a race at Empire City Monday, while Glennadeane, which is trained by A. G. Blakelev. who is Glass employer, had Tausey in the saddle. T. W. OBrien, .owner of Glennadeane, says he holds the contract on Tansey and prefers to put him up instead of Glass. Hospital Day at Victoria race track netted nbout ,500 for the benefit of the two hospitals of the city. Lieutenant-Governor Dunsmulr and Chief Justice Hunter graced the occasion with their presence. The club Is considering the advisability of setting apart another day for the benefit of a fund for the womens building at the. agricultural grounds.
