EUROPEAN GOVERNMENTAL MUTUEL TAXES. The deductions made from winnings at the totalizators by the French government and the authorized tax levied by race societies and others amount to 8 per cent. Heavier deductions are made In Germany, according to the locality. It is quite possible that the tax Imposed by the government there has considerably exceeded 24 per cent, as even now at Baden, the most favored spot, the deduction equals 22 per cent.
