FORT ERIE RECORDS FALL CREEL AND LADY ESTHER REDUCE HITHERTO EXISTING MARKS. Former Sets New Standard for Mile and Sixteenth and Latter for Mile and Three-Sixteenths Turf Star Equals Five-Furlong Mark. h Buffalo, N. Y., Jnly 28. Getaway day at Fort Erie was marked by record-breaking and sensational racing. Two track records were broken during the afternoon and another was eqnaled. Tlie record-breakers were Creel and Lady Esther. The former reduced the record for a mile and a sixteenth from 1:44J to 1:445. Lady Esther lowered the mile and three-sixteenths record from 1:5SJ to l;58i. Turf Star equaled the existing track record for five furlongs when she ran the distance in 1:00 inrwin-ning the juvenile race. jreels feat was accomplished in the handicap, la which he was opposed bv Wool Sandals and The Minks. There was plenty of backing for all three contenders, but Creel had a slight call over Wool Sandals for favoritism. Hie latter dominated the running at a speedy pace for the first seven furlongs, with Creel his closest pursuer.. When straightened away in the stretch Creel drew out to win with consummate case. Tlie Minks made a determined bid in tlie last three furlongs, but Wool Sandals retained the place. Eye Whites defeat in the second race was a stunner to form followers and was accomplished in an unexpected manner. Jockey Kennedys bungling handling contributed to a considerable degree. The colt was almost thrown soori after the start, when Hickory Stick, ridden by Crowley, crossed In front of him. Tlie mishap forced him back to last place. Kennedy rushed him into forward contention in the first quarter, and when about to pass Into the lead at the stretch turn steered him for. an impossible opening and he was again forced back. The last mishap eliminated him as an important factor, and Turf Star and Penn were left to fight It out, the former winning in the last stride. Penn stumbled just before the finish was reached, which cost him the race. Eye White landed in third place. With a clear course lie unquestionably would have won off. Bad riding accounted for First Preiniunifs defeat and enabled John W. Schorr to take his first, purse of the meeting through the victory of Gretna Green. First Premium was allowed to trail far behind Gretna Greens and Green Seals pace In the early running. At the stretch turn he was-rapidly weariuj; them down, but Davenjiort. instead of remaining close to the inner rail, elected to go wide and this lost the race. Gretna Green won by a short head, with First Premium second and Green Seal third. Edgely scored at the end of a sensational stretch drive with St. .Teanue, which had been the leader from barrier rise. P. M. Civill, after having previously" won with Creel and Topsy Robinson, took the closing race with Lady Esther. She was put to a hard drive in the stretch, but stood It gamely and drewsaway at the end from Zipango, her most persistent opponent; Reidmoore finished third. Supplementary to the ruling of July 19, jockey ICeefer lias been warned off the course. The judges have reported the case of jockey B. Burton to the Cnnadian Racing Associations with the recommendation that his license be revoked. Burton has admitted the use of a battery in races elsewhere and was ordered away from New Orleans the last year of racing there on a charge of using such a device on the horse First Mason. The Canadian Racing Associations were not in possession of this information when Burtons application for a license came up. The judges will also recommend to the Canadian Racing Associations that the license of jockey Crowley lie revoked for his interference with Eye White shortly after the start in the second race. Another notice that the judges handed down was that they had reported to the Canadian Racing Associations that the testimony of the patrol Judge and of the trainer and rider of Waterway is unanimously to the effect that the horse was In no way impeded or interfered with in the steeplechase of July 21 and that he was beaten absolutely on his merits. It had lieen charged that Tlie Poet was responsible for Waterways defeat by impeding him at the last two obstacles and that Bonnie Kate repeatedly blocked him in the short stretch drive. As an aftermath of the race there has lieen a change In the management .of Waterway. Agents from Delorimier Park were active today soliciting horsemen to ship to Montreal, but met with little encouragement.
