GOOD RETURNS FROM NEW YORK RACING. Not Up to Former Yelars, hut of Paying Volume and Worth Striving For. That the New York tracks are not yielding the great returns to winning owners of a few years back, is a matter to be expected, but they are doing very well in that respect, with a cheerful prospect of still better things to come. S. C. nildreth and James R. Keene have fared best so far and will probably continue to do so to the end of the year, but other owners who possess good race horses have nothing to complain of. John E. Madden has no Sir Martin this year, or at any rate if he lias a two-year-old nearly as good, has not introduced it to public notice, but his stable winnings are respectable and so are those of C. L. Harrison. Of those owners who have not attained double lignres, none seemed more certain to accomplish it at Saratoga than W. Clay and if his good lilly. Ocean Bound, has really gone wrong, it is a great misfortune to him. The rich Spinaway Stakes seemed a certainty for her and no two-year-old had a greater chance of winning the still more valuable Hopeful Stakes. II. P. Whitney does not occupy his usual prominent position, but that is easily accounted for by his Slaving sent the best of Ins horses of all ages to England.
