RACING DECISION AT VICTORIA". Victoria. B. C, Jnly 2S. Some would-be reformers who sought to bring about the annulment of the lease of the Fair Grounds track to the Victoria Country Club for its summer meeting, now In progress, because betting was permitted on the races. Instigated a movement which resulted in the City Council asking the city barrister for a legal opinion on various phases of the matter at issue. The city barrister reported back to the council that the lease could not be annulled on the grounds in question, and that betting on horse races is perfectly legal in British Columbia so long as it is confined to the race track enclosure.
