PLANS FOR PIMLICO MEETING. Saratoga, X. Y.. August 20. William Manloy. president of the Maryland Jockey Club, who has been spending a few days here, says that, as a result of the success which attended last springs meeting of that organization, purses will lie advanced and new stakes will be instituted at Pimlico. Tin; club will proceed cautiously, however, because it does not want to undertake anything it cannot carry out. The new stakes to be instituted are a two-mile race for three-year-olds, a mile and a half race for three-year-olds, and a three-mile pink coat affair. The two-mile race is to be called the Bowie, after old Governor .Bowie, one of the best friends racing ever had in Maryland. The three-year-old special will be called the Hall, after the late Robert C. Hall, a recent president .of the Maryland Jockey Club. The pink coat race will he known as the Pimlico Hunters Steeplechase and it is sure of success because amateur racing of every sort is popular at Baltimore. The officers of the Maryland Jockey Club considered the advisability of bringing back from Benning the name "Dixie" for its mile and a half race for three-year-olds. The Dixie of old was a great Pimlico special. Its name was appropriated by the Washington Jockey .Club when it instituted at Benning: its famous autumnal special for three-year-olds at one mile and three-quarters. The idea was turned down because the Maryland Jockey Club felt that it owed something to the memory of Mr. Hall. who. up to the day pf his death, was a strong supporter of Maryland racing. The Maryland Jockey Club expects big crowds on the days its long-distance races are run. because racing of this character is as popular at Baltimore as steeplechasing and amateur racing. To promote cross-country racing the club will otter a sti-eplechase every day. AH the jumpers will go to Baltimore after the Belmont Park meeting, because there will be no steeplechasing this year at Jamaica and Aqueduct.
