1 , i : THE UNITED STATES HOTEL STAKES : Quite an old-timer among the Saratoga fixed events is the United States Hotel Stakes, having been first run so far back as 18S0, when it fell to Bonnie Scotlands famous son, Luke Blackburn, a small horse, but one of the best racers that ever wore a bridle. Since his year the event has been captured bv such other grand racers as Hindoo, Drake Carter, Inspector B., Hanover. Kinley Mack and Burgomaster, hut good as thev were, none of these was in any respect the superior of Luke Blackburn. Last year, and for some years "previously.
