BETTER PURSES IN SIGHT IN EAST. New York. September 7. Secretary Edwards of the Metropolitan Jockey Club was at Sheepshead Bay yesterday and he surveyed the big crowd with keen satisfaction. "This looks good for racing." Edwards remarked. "Its like an old-time Sheepshead Bay crowd. Take it from me the sport is all right again, and let the horsemen know that we are going to do all we can for them at Jamaica later on. We dont expect to make any money. Weare going to give n ,500 handicap the first day and ,500 handicaps each Saturday. In our minor races we will put up as much money as we posslblv can and try to distribute it so that everybody will get a share." Schuyler Parsons, president of the Coney Island Jockey Club, says that the attendance at Sheepshead Bay has been so good the club will not lose money. If tilings continue to improve, Mr. Parsons says all the metropolitan associations will advance purses.
