NOTES OF THE TURF. Daintys first foal is a finely developed chestnut, greatly resembling his dam. Dalmatian, S. C. Hlldreths good Ethelbert colt, cannot bo made to work well for his races. The recent educational meeting at Reno. Nev,, was conducted at a loss of ,500, according to reports from the west. Thomas Welsh will next year handle only the horses of the Newcastle Stable and some two-year-olds for August Belmont. Charles Dixon, who at one time laid odds on tha California tracks, was arrested at San Francisco a few davs ago, charged with violation of the Walker-Otis law by betting on the result of a ball game between Oakland and Los Angeles. It. F. Carman is now the owner of nineteen yearling, and lie will not take thern to California, as has been his custom. He will break them at once and send them into winter quarters in the east. Mr. Carman is planning on spending the winter in Europe. The St Louis plan of Judge Murphy is one that will have to be followed at Chicago before any more moves to revive the racing game there are tried. The day of the old-time way of running race tracks must come back, where the men behind the venture are in it for the sport and not for the dollars that can be grabbed off at the gate and from the betting ring.
