; THE RUNNING OF THE FLIGHT STAKES 4. From its first running in 1SS7 two-year-olds have been given a chance to compete with their elders in the Flight Stakes, but only one has ever succeeded in carrying off its honors and only six in all have been placed, even tbe mighty Hamburg failing to gain Imtter than second place. It has always been a favorite lace witli tbe owners of great sprinters and was lirst won by Captain S.. S. Browns Stuyvesant. the first horse credited with having run a mileii: 1:40 In this country. Following him it fell to such brilliant examples of supreme speed as Britannic, Kingston, Teriny. Dr. Hasbrouck, Clifford. Requital. Bendoran, Holiobas, Voter, Leonora Lorlng, Hamburg Belle and Roseben, of which Kingston, Clifford, Hamburg Belle and Roseben each won It twice. The fastest time it was ever run in was 1:25 and Hamburg Belle won It in that time in 1904 and repeated it in 1005. The Flight of tbis year has an entry list up to its traditions, with Jack Atkin, Uncle, Prince Ahmed, Field Mouse, Half Sovereign, Maskette, Nimbus and De Mur.d representing tbe elder horses and Sweep, Waldo, Chickasaw, Dalmatian, Cherryola, Turf Star, The Fad and Fair Louise the two-year-olds.
