FITZ HERBERT-MASKETTE MATCH TALK. New York, September 10. Maskette. which may lxiir the popular colors of James R. Keene in the Omnium Handicap .Monday, is ready. Tne big daughter of Disguise and Biturica. undisputed champion of tin- three-year-old lilly division, worked a mile in 1:415 at Sheepshead Bay Thursday morning in eminently satisfactory style. She galloped the first three-eighths in 30J the half in 49. live Inrlongs in 1:01. three-quarters in 1:148 and seven furlongs "That was good work for Maskette, because Mr. Roue lias never asked. her to do her best for fun. am! she was in hand all the way. Everybody who saw Maskette do this work was impressed with the hlg brown mares fitness to do nearly anything that might be asked of a first class three-year-old. More than one expressed a hope .that .some enterprising racing association might make an effort to bring Maskette ,and Fitz Herbert together In a special race at a mile and an eighth or farther. Fitz Her-licit is in superb condition and Sam Hlldreth would Im; willing to match him against Maskette at any distance bevond a mile and an eighth. There, does not appear to lie any reason why Maskette and Fitz Herbert should not be matched this fall. A special race would not interfere .with the future engagements of either of them.. They have no future engagements of consequence ill common, and ji meeting between the greatest three-year-old colt .and the greatest three-year-old lilly of the vear would serve to enliven a season which is becoming a. trille commonplace for. want of such races as the Century and Annual Champion used to fur-pish.
