KING EDWARD LOSES HIS LEAD. Bayardos Victory in the St. Leger Advances Mr. Fairie to Head of List of English Owners. . Additional particulars of the running of tbe St. iLeger at Poneaster Wednesday bring the information that Bayardo won so easily that. there is no longer any question of tbe merit of bis owners opinion that he is entitled to be considered the best three-year-old of the year. To tbe general surprise King Edwards Minoru. which by bis successes in the Two Thousand Guineas and Derby, was regarded s Bayardos toughest opponent, made a poor showing. Lord Carnarvons Valens colt finished a length and a half behind the winner and the same distance in front of AValdorf Astors MIrador. .Minoru ran poorly throughout and finished fourth, just in front of Carrousel. The Story and Bachelors Double. The result showed how unlucky Mr. Fairie was that his colt should have contracted lameness in the spring. As fit and well as be was for the St. Leger, it now seems certain he would not have been beaten at either Newmarket or Epsom, the only two occasions on which he has met with reverses. Added to his four previous victories as a three-year-old. the value of the St. Leger Stakes brings Bavardos winnings up to 8,115, and this, with an additional 7,625. which his owner won with Lem berg and other horses this season, brings Mr. Fairies total to 25,740, which gives him a good lead over King Edward in tbe list of winning owners.
