Prospective Field for the Futurity NEW YORK, N. Y., September 11. As near as can be gathered there will be seven starters in ths Futurity. That is the number of owners and trainers who have declared themselves. The list will include Man o War, ridden by Loftus; Dominique, with Kummer up; Cleopatra, guided by Fairbrother; On Watch, with Kelsay in the saddle; Upset, for which no rider has yet been engaged; John P. Grier, piloted by Ambrose, and Paul Jones, no rider engaged. It may be there will be one or two other owners of practically obscure horses who are willing to take a long chance to get a part of the money, as even second and third prizes are as rich as the winning of some other stakes. Second money is 00 and two-thirds of the starting fees and third money is 00 and one-third of the starting fees. William Karrick intended starting both Cleopatra and Star Court if both qualified in their race on Wednesday in the Nursery Handicap. Only one proved worthy, that was Cleopatra, she running a commendable race after bolting at the start. Star Court showed speed, but as he has done many times before he shot his bolt early, and this, according to his trainer, will probably eliminate him from the Futurity. Trainer Hirsch of the Loft stable would have given Donnacona a chance at the big prize, but the colt injured himself at Saratoga and this put him out of commission for a few days, sufficient to throw him out of training. He was being especially prepared for this event. The Loft stable will have to depend upon On Watch, a good scrt of colt, but-one that can hardly be called Futurity timber, unUss he has improved a whole lot on his best form. Paul Jones is the pride of the Captain Parr stable, and he may do something when it comes down to a final pinch. At Saratoga he so pleased William Garth, his trainer, with his work that Garth decided to have him carry the popular colors of Captain Parr in the Futurity. He has shown a liking for the Belmont straight strip, which is a point in his favor and almost a guarantee he will deliver all he has in him. Secretary Rehberger says that Trainer Bedwell, who has charge of Commander Ross horses, intimated he would probably send on King Thrush from Havre de Grace to run in the Futurity, as he did with Sir Barton last year, but most judges seem to doubt Bedwells sincerity. Yet he is "one of the shrewd type of trainers, and if King Thrush has shown him sufficient speed in his work to warrant lis shipment King Thrush may be present to bear the exceedingly popular black and orange colors of Commander J. K. L. Ross. Captain Alcock has been mentioned as a possible starter. Should the track be muddy or sloppy- John Madden may. invest "atartere-fee for the colt, but" notrotherwise. --- - "If we have eight starters it is as many as I can expect, as Man o War and Dominique are sufficient to scare many an owner from spending further money on this years Futurity. But there might be more. Weather and track conditions frequently change ones plans of horse and man," was secretary Rehbergers comment as to thp Futurity field.
