SMALL FIELDS AT BELMONT PARK War Kiss Victress in Southampton Handicap Two Eaces with Only Two Starters. NEW YOBK, X. Y., September 11. Small fields which were named to start in most of todays races were reduced still farther by withdrawals in the first and third races, only two horses starting in each. There was no real featur.e. horses of mediocre class starting, but in most cases the racing was keenly contested. The Southampton Handicap, for fillies and mares at one mile, brought about a good contest with War Kiss proving the winner. Herodias. showing much early speed, raced into a good lead 5n the early running, but tired badly in the drive through the stretch, War Kiss and Bose dOr botli passing her. In the opening dash P.ack Bay and War Note were th- only starters, the former being -quoted at prohibitive odds, but right after the start he bolted to the outside rail, permitting War Note to open up a long lead, which he maintained to the finish. Syosset added another victory to his long list by taking the Whitstone Steeplechase easily, with Kwoneshee second and Weldship third. Snapdragon II. and Tetley, the onlv starters in the third race, furnished a thrilling ""contest, thev running head and head for the final three-sixteenths of the race, the former getting the decision narrowly. Elmendorf, Becount and Arrah Go On were withdrawn. The largest field of the day started in the fifth race, wliich was for maiden two-year-olds. Hampden, which was first in a race at Empire City in July on a false start, which was declared no race and run over, was the winner of this affair by a short margin from American Soldier and Bread Line. An evenly matched field met in the sixth at one mile, witli Elmendorf, War Machine. Carpet Sweeper and Thistledon, all well supported. Carpet Sweeper was the winner from Thistledon and War Machine. Iluttontrope was claimed by his owner. J. II. Bemmer. for ,505 out of the first race vesterdav, which conditioned under the French claiming rule, therefore the horse was automatically withdrawn. V. . Casey and J. II. Seimctt also had in claims ot ,300 each for the horse. LADY DOROTHY TO THE STUD. Lady Dorothy broke down in her race of a few days ago and will lie shipped to J. E. Maddens Hamburg Place by the Quincy Stable and bred to one of the stallions owned by Mr. Madden. The weights for the Queens County Handicap, at a mile and one-sixteenth, to be run Mondav at Aqueduct, with ,500 added, have been posted, and the field wili likely come froin the following: Naturalist, 133: Lueullite, 133; Star Master, 120: Valor, 120; . Ilollistor, 117; Duiilwyne, 115; Sennings Park. 114; Audacious, 113; Enfilade, 100, and Ticklish, 100. Steve Judge has brought Mars Mouse up from Maryland, where he has had a long rest, and Charles McDonald has also brought Earnest from the same place. The stables of George Peterson and J. II. Bose-acher have arrived at Jamaica from Havre de Grace. Man o War received his final work for the Futurity this morning. With J. Loftus in the saddle he covered three-quarters of a mile out of the chute in 1:14 in handy fashion. Jockey Loftus will join the stable of J. K. L. Boss in Maryland Monday and will remain throughout the Maryland season, with tiie exception of a trip to Lexington to ride Colonel Bal Parrs Blazes in the Breeders Futurity. The Jockey Club Stakes, to be run on Saturday, may develop into a walk over for Purchase. A canvass of owners who have prospective eligibles indicates no contention, unless one or two of the second division horses are sent out for second and third money. Sam Hildreth ship? all his horses but Purchase and Dominique to Havre de Grace tomorrow. These two will leave after filling their engagements Saturday. B. L. Gerrys high-priced colt Feodor is out of training, having struck himself -while at work-during-tue clpsing days of the Saratoga meeting.
